Patrick has been engaged by a range of agencies to undertake research and develop crime prevention and community safety strategies. Key projects include:
Development of crime prevention and community safety plans, strategies and evaluation for NSW Councils in urban (including Auburn, Burwood, Canterbury, Cumberland, Fairfield, Liverpool, Northern Beaches); regional (including Dubbo, Maitland, Shellharbour, Singleton) and remote (Walgett, Wilcannia) local government areas (2010 – 2023)
Design and development of a 3-day crime prevention training package to support policymakers from member States to understand crime prevention principles, concepts and approaches (in partnership with Associate Professor Garner Clancey, University of Sydney) on behalf of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
Development of and training in the delivery of ‘Living Safely In Cumberland Community’ Safety education modules promoting awareness of personal, property and cyber safety and supports available for the diverse community of Cumberland
Evaluation of the Liverpool Public Safety CCTV Program as well as development of policies and procedures to support the implementation of Liverpool City Council’s Public Safety CCTV Program
Partnering with Inca Consulting to conduct research into preventing child sexual abuse in out of home care settings for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
Undertaking Perceptions of Safety Research Project, exploring perceptions of safety and strategies to improve those perceptions, funded through a partnership between Auburn, Bankstown, Canterbury and Hurstville City Councils
Development of Midwest Aboriginal Community Safety Strategy, a community-led initiative to address community concerns about lateral and family violence in the Midwest region of Western Australia, through funding from the Western Australian Department of Indigenous Affairs.
Development of Safety in Lakemba Strategy to enhance actual and perceived safety in the Lakemba business community (for the former City of Canterbury Council)
Development of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies to reduce crime risk in proximity to taxi ranks (for Burwood Council) and car parks (for the former City of Canterbury Council)
Development of Wilcannia Community Safety Plan 2011–2014, a National Partnership Agreement on Remote Service Delivery initiative funded by the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
Review of the first decade of the Safer Cities Program and research into best practice crime prevention in a local government context for Shellharbour City
